Christmas Parties

Tuesday, December 14, 2010 by Terri Powell
Corporate Outings went great this last week. Area companies are visiting Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis to celebrate the holidays! Our schedule was crazy but exciting all at the same time. We really enjoy when Indianapolis team building is so successful.
This week brings us lots of excitement, everyday we are hosting more corporate outings.

Last weekend brought us 13 bowling birthday party families on Saturday. I was out working with the kids bowling parties and now more than every appreciate our hosts.  The concourse looked like birthday party central and to my surprise several of these parties had 20+ children.  I am thankful that a bowling birthday party is popular.

We are getting ready for this coming weekend with several different activities. We have bowl with Santa on Saturday, kids bowling parties and the Youth bowling league Indianapolis banquet. Sunday brings us the 9 Pin No Tap tournament.  I am sorry to say that John has retired and will no longer be running these tournaments, but we are going to continue. The program office is looking forward at next year's schedule and planning dates for these tournaments. Our hope is to grow from John's great ground work and turn this into the best Indianapolis bowling tournament.

Learn to Bowl (better)

Thursday, October 14, 2010 by Stacey Davis

I’m what the industry calls an open bowler – someone who comes in on weekend nights after the leagues and bowls a few games once or twice a year. I call people like me recreational bowlers.

One of the things that keeps me from bowling is I’m not very good at it. As a teenager and in college my friends and I would go to the bowling alley and have a good time. But by the middle of the 3rd game I was just throwing the ball down the lane to get it over with. I'm not about to sign up for an Indianapolis bowling tournament (yet), but I have a competitive streak in me and pretty much only have fun if I’m at least within a competitive score.

As the marketing director of several Indianapolis bowling centers it’s my job to find more recreational bowlers like me and introduce them back into bowling in Indianapolis. Royal Pin has a great Learn to Bowl program. I decided to promote the bowling lesson with Coach Ray Muir by taking them myself. I will blog about it the whole way through, including photos and videos.

Each week, or as we can set it up, I will have a bowling lesson with Ray. He’ll show me how things are suppose to be done and give me custom one-on-one training. As part of his program Ray will video record my steps as I bowl and give tips on how to improve my game. At my level, he’ll also need to give me the basic rules of the game.

Between coaching lessons I’ll be bowling with my friend Chris Nelson. Chris use to bowl as a kid and teenager. I plan to catch up and pass him. We’ll end up having to give him some pointers by the time this is done.

Ray and Dave Snell coach at all levels. They’ll do group or personal training. Check out our site for more information.

Our coaching program is a great step to getting non bowlers to feel good about bowling. As Coach Snell says, its 90% mental, 10% talent.

We had our first event pre bowling lesson, Tuesday. Let me say, there is very much room for improvement!

Bowling In Indianapolis

Greetings from Expo Bowling Center on the South side of Indianapolis!

Great things are happening at the bowling center this month.

Saturday October 3, Zach Weidman, a youth bowler in our Saturday Morning Youth League, rolled his first 800 series ever.  He shot games of 263, 298 & 247 for an 808 series!  Zach is also an employee at Expo Bowl.  Great job Zach!

High School Bowling has just begun.  Expo Bowl is sponsoring teams from Franklin Central, Southport, Perry Meridian and Roncalli High Schools.  Boys and girls' bowling teams have been practicing for competition that begins in November.  Teams from our area travel to other area bowling centers each week for their league.  After their regular season is completed teams will compete in divisional, sectional, semi-state and state finals.  Scholarships will be awarded at these levels.  Call Expo for the season schedule and come out to support these young athletes.

Bowling Tournaments are an important part of our center and we have two this month.
Join us Sunday, October 17th at 7pm for the Royal Pin Sunday Night Sweeper Series.  This tournament is held periodically throughout our 4 centers.
Our 2nd 9 Pin No Tap Tournament of this bowling season is Sunday October 24th at 7pm.  This is a handicap tournament so everyone bowling has a chance to win.  There's also a scratch division for all of you hot shot bowlers!
Don't miss out on these fun events in Indianapolis.

Celebrate your child's birthday party with us.
We offer bowling and laser tag birthday party packages.
Some of the recent comments we've gotten were;
Carrie S. said "Danielle took such good care of our party.  I'll definitely be back"
John R. said "My son had so much fun with his friends.  He's even asked for a bowling ball of his own."
Debbie R. said "Laser tag was awesome!  The kids ran around and worked off all that energy"

We'd love to come in a check out of center.  Call 787-3448, visit our website at royalpin.com or email sbrehob@royalpin.com for more information.

Youth Bowling

Saturday, October 9, 2010 by Terri Powell
Teen Travelers Youth Bowling Leagues Indianapolis has their kick off this weekend.

Sunday is the first day of the Teen Travelers league.  Expo Bowling Center is the first host of the year and like us here at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis looking forward to a successful season.

This year Woodland Bowling Center has 2 boys teams and 1 girls team.  We are excited about our teams and are sure that the Woodland teams will do very well.

It is amazing how the kids have grown up, some of these kids have been bowling in our youth bowling leagues for years. There are a few of them that started in the bumper division and I'm pretty sure that several of them have had their kids bowling birthday parties at our centers.

These kids are gaining experience visiting bowling alleys in Indianapolis each Sunday and competing for scholarships. Most of them have taken bowling lesson and some are still receiving lessons.  They work very hard to improve their game. Some continuing in Indianapolis bowling tournament and league bowling through out their lifetime.

Good Luck to all the travelers and special high five for the teams from Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis!

Bowling Alley vs Bowling Center

Friday, September 3, 2010 by Terri Powell
Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis, back in the day was a place where our parents went out to the bowling "alley". It was smoke filled and the beer flowed. Now it is not smoke filled but you can still have that beer. There are no worries about score keeping, only worry is what activity to do first. The bowling "alleys" are now a more family oriented place.  Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis has become a place to relax, enjoy music, play billiards and enjoy the bowling atmosphere. There are so many possibilities from playing arcade games, food, leagues or recreational bowling. It is hard to imagine Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis ever being a bowling "alley". Recently while watching a Mom with her children, I realized how different things are. I would so enjoy being that kid again. No more would I have to hang out behind Mom and Dad's lane. I would be able to play for hours in the Big Top and go outside and play Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf.  I thought how lucky I am to work in an industry that promotes not only corporate outings but also family time. Thank you to all the families that schedule their kids bowling birthday parties and help change the bowling "alley" into a bowling center.

Bowling In Southern Indianapolis

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Susie Brehob
Greetings from Expo Bowling Center!

Expo Bowling Center is pumped for their summer league bowling season.  We are in full swing flooring our leagues but it's not too late to join a league.

Summer league bowling is a great way to get out of the heat, spend time with family and friends, keep your bowling skills up (or if you're a beginner, learn to bowl) and get free bowling and coupon giv-a-ways weekly.

All our summer league bowlers receive one free game of bowling for each paid game of league bowling.  Not only that but adults have the chance to win the Royal Pin Mustang Convertible.  Merchant coupons are given away nightly.

Kids bowling in our youth and youth/adult leagues go to King's Island at the end of their bowling league season (f they choose that option.)

Leagues will be forming for the next few weeks and we have leagues for every age and ability.  You don't have to have a full team to bowl.  We can put together a team for you.  What a great way to make new friends!

Call us at 317-787-3448 or email sbrehob@royalpin.com for more information or to sign up.

Laser Tag and Bowling Birthday Parties are still a popular way to celebrate your child's birthday.  We can accommodate you most any day or time so call us to reserve this important event for your child.  You're never at the mercy of the weather when planning your party.  It may be warm outside but it never rains in the bowling center or laser tag arena.

Some comments from our last bowling and laser storm birthday parties were:

Sharon S. said "Ivan did a great job with our child's party.  He was right there when we needed him and was so polite!"

Tanya W. said "I didn't have to do a thing.  Our hostess Brittany took care of everything for us."

Tom R. said "Bowling was a great way to keep the kids occupied and my wife happy that she didn't have to have a mess at the house!"

Expo Bowling Center will host Old Fashioned Days on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Again, for more information or to sign up for any of our events or leagues call 317-787-3448 or email sbrehob@royalpin.com.
