The Future of Bowlnation

Friday, January 13, 2012 by Sierra Austill

Do you enjoy the sport of bowling? How about having lunch at your favorite restaurant? Do you want to see those small businesses thrive and those large companies succeed? In order for these things to happen we have to prepare our youth. Indianapolis bowling centers have many coaches that assist our youth bowlers every year to succeed in improving their skills. Although, our coaches are a big help they are dwindling down. Many people love the sport but not many are willing to teach at an Indianapolis bowling center. Our coaches not only teach our youth to better their skills but they also learn many other skills. They are taught how to listen attentively. In order to properly give a bowling lesson the teacher must have the youth bowlers attention. Also, in order for the youth bowler to learn they must give their undevided attention to the coach. Our Indianapolis bowling coaches also teach teamwork. All of our your bowling leagues are created that in order to win you have to have your teams involvement. Involvement is the encouragement they give to each other, the "pick me ups" if something just doesn't go right, and some youth bowlers learn the skills to coach their friends. Royal Pin centers in Indianapolis have many coaches that teach great sportsmanship. Everytime that child bowls in a youth bowling league, they will be bowling against another team. These youth are taught, no matter if you win or lose, that you can cheer on the other team for a job well done.
The sky's the limitThe sky is the limit if we can teach our youth bowling leagues these simple skills. They won't realize they're learning either cuz they'll be having fun. SNA

Moving From One Place To Another

Friday, November 11, 2011 by Sierra Austill

Have you ever had to move? Moving from your home to one that has a totally different scenery, different people, and different way of handling things can be an exciting and scary situation. I recently moved from Western Bowling Center to Southern Bowling Center. This experience has given me a different perspective of many different things. I was at Western Bowl for a total of 6 years and I never imagined having to change centers. At first I was very nervous about everything. I was unsure how the other employees would treat me, how many adjustments I would have to make to accommodate the new position I was given. I was very afraid that if I messed up on anything or didn't understand something I would be looked down upon. Southern has given me opportunity to meet new people and experience a different management staff. Although Southern is on the outskirts of Indianapolis in a quiet area, the people inside are full of life and as fun as can be. They welcomed me in as if I had been working there for years. The center itself is well kept and everyone is willing to help you through any difficult situation. I immediately had to start working with our youth bowling leagues. I discovered that the center is extremely involved with the kids and want to make sure they are enjoying themselves. Every month we celebrate the kids' birthdays by getting brownies, cookies, or another type of snack. We have bowling lessons that are included in the youth league. Another great aspect of the center is our kids bowling parties. Our birthday party host will always be recognized by the silly hat that they choose to wear while assisting with your party. They have wonderful personalities and will help the party with anything that they have the ability to. Our birthday party hosts are going to take any and all stress off of you. Having your birthday party at Southern Bowling Center will make things so much easier and it is a sport that anyone can participate in. I remember the first night I was here I went and introduced myself to the bowling leagues. All of the bowlers were very nice and greeted me with such enthusiasm. Working some nights more than others I have already remembered some of their names. Remembering the names of the bowlers is the greatest thing ever. You're able to personally greet them and having approximately 200 bowlers in the center it can be a very difficult task. When you talk to the bowlers by name or remember a score they bowled, the bowlers realize how much you truly care about them. Working in an Indianapolis Bowling Center has also given me respect for the people that are behind the scenes. Have you ever thought about how the machines are not breaking down or why there are clean restrooms to use? The next time that you go to the Southern Bowling Center, think about all the things that are done to make your experience a great one. Once you learn all the different angles of bowling, you will love Indianapolis bowling as much as I do.

Blogging

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 by Terri Powell

We are supposed to blog once a week here at Royal Pin, but I often find it hard to think of a topic for discussion. There are only so many times you can talk about kids bowling parties, laser tag parties and bowling parties. I keep looking for new avenues to write about, but I am coming up empty.

I thought self..  you could write about each center...  but, what to say about Western Bowl Indianapolis, Woodland bowling center Indianapolis, Expo bowling center or Southern bowling center, that you do not already know.  I could say how Western has a great staff and mention a few of their names.  Mark, Susie and Doug.  How many of you know them?  Did you know that they would love for you to stop by their office and just say hello? Does anyone out there have a funny story to tell about Western?

I am curious about how many times per week you bowl, how many have shot 300 and how many have not broken 100. Do you have a favorite memory of bowling with family? Those are things I think about.

I can remember going to watch my Mother bowl in league. As a kid that was so BORING.   Wow..I wish I could see her bowl again.  I remember she looked kinda funny going to the foul line (she had the HOP in her approach).  She was not a great bowler but her team had such a good time. I remembering them laughing, come to think of it they might have been laughing at her approach.  It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized what team building Indianapolis was all about and how bowling memories carry on forever. Share your memories with us.  We would love to hear them!

Sometimes I just enjoy watching the bowlers. Everyone  has their own style and it doesn't seem to matter if the delivery is text book. Big scores can be shot by just be consistent.  Often times bowlers to schedule a bowling lesson with Ray and I am so happy to see their average jump up. Isn't it crazy how picking up a ten pin can make you so excited! What's the most difficult spare for you? I know I could use a bowling lesson on the ten pin. Maybe I should schedule a bowling lesson with Ray..  Hmmm...  something to think about.

Enjoy your week!

Tis the Season

Friday, August 12, 2011 by Terri Powell
Well the time has come for everyone to think about what they will be doing this fall.  All the Royal Pin Leisure Centers have put together great programs for the upcoming season. It's safe to say that bowling leagues Indianapolis are the best of the best.

I know that there are a few teams that need help finding bowlers to finish off their line up.  Let your center know what you need to finish up your team. If you need a team they can also help. You could go to face book and post your needs on the Royal Pin Fan Page. With so many bowlers in the city Indianapolis team building could be easy if we use the tools available to us. Don't forget that if your game needs some work all the centers will be scheduling learn to bowl classes.

I haven't bowled in about 3 years and have decided this might be year to get back to it. I really miss the 2 hours of visiting with friends.  I am amazed at the number of people I don't see anymore, you always think you run into them after bowling. That doesn't always seem to pan out.

I would not know three of my best friends without bowling.  I met 1 of them in 1990 and the others in 1992, or is that 91... oh I'm not sure of the year now but it's been a really long time. It is crazy how bowling leagues produce family members you didn't know you had. :-)  Okay so they are family by choice. But sometimes that is the best kind. When I talk to people who want to bowl in a league to meet others, I always tell them, bowlers are the best kind of friends. They are loyal, kind, generous and end up friends for a lifetime.

So come on in and pick your new family of choice!  Bowling leagues Indianapolis is a great place to start!

The secret is to learn how to bowl from the beginning.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 by Ray Muir
Bowling can be an excellent fun, social sport that everyone can enjoy.
The secret is to learn how to bowl from the beginning.  Don’t develop bad bowling habits. These habits can lead to not enjoying bowling because you are not improving and possibly feel soreness in your arm, wrist, shoulder. This is because you must allow the bowling ball to do the work. You must guide and set the ball on the proper course down the lane to score well.

                         BOWLING  LESSON ONE - A

We do this by learning the basic four step delivery of the ball. If you are a right hander, step off with the right foot and a the same time pushing in unison with your step. On the second step you allow the ball to start the motion of a pendulum on a clock.

The ball comes down being held in the bowlers right hand and Moves completely in a swing to the rear on your third step.  All the while close to your right side. When the ball reaches the completion of the back swing it begins to move forward, continually in a pendulum motion to the point of release.  You do not at any time pull the ball forward. Let the ball come forward freely to the point of release on your fourth step.

                          BOWLING LESSON TWO - A

When you place the ball in your hand placing your inner two fingers and the thumb in the ball.  Position your hand like you are shaking hands or carrying a suitcase.  The thumb should be pointing to 10:00 o’clock. At the point of release we do not throw the ball down the lane.  We roll it. If the ball was square we would throw it.

                                GENERAL - A

In our next lessons we will talk about where to aim the ball. Everyone right from the beginning wants to roll strikes, but we must first work on how we get to that point. The bowling center has rental shoes and house balls  for use.  It is OK to start bowling with their equipment, but you will find out later that you might want to have your own personal equipment.

Bowling Tips

Thursday, March 10, 2011 by Customer Reviews
Hi Dave Thanks for sending the pfd on spare shooting. On my first league night after the Bowling lesson, I had a 519 series [178,159.182] with a 121 average. Needless to say a big improvement. Last night I shot 154,102 and 163 on a 125 average, and my teammate and I had entered the doubles pool and won on the third game. So my bowling lesson is paying off, literally. It is much more fun and interesting bowling after the bowling lessons.
Thanks, I'll be in touch and will recommend you for lessons as the best place for bowling lesson in Indianapolis.

Free bowling lessons

Thursday, March 3, 2011 by Customer Reviews
Hi Dave. I don't know if you remember me, but you gave me a free lesson at Southern Bowl about a month ago. My lady friend and I are both 68, and we didn't really think a lesson would be of much help.
You had me change to a 4-step delivery and showed me how to hold the ball to get more action on it. You also showed me where to stand to convert more spares. Since then I've practiced what you taught me, and it has really helped my scores. The Thursday before last I had a 298 game and a 667 series. Last Thursday I had a 236 game and 607 series. Today I had games of 240, 257 and 203. All of these scores were in league bowling. I've been bowling so much better that everybody has been asking me who gave me my lesson and I've given them your name. They got some of your business cards and should be calling you. With your help I've become a better bowler and a good advertisement for how much your lessons can help anyone. Thanks again for all the help.

Bowling in the Western Indianapolis Area

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 by Susie Brehob
Greetings from Western Bowling Center located on the west side of Indianapolis!

Bowling at Western Bowl has been booming so far this January.  Our Saturday morning Bowlopolis Youth League started back on January 8th with several new bowlers.  We'd like to welcome them to our bowling league and to our center.  We met with the new parents, served them coffee and donuts and went over all that we have to offer their kids.  Most of the parents didn't realize that we give scholarships, offer free learn to bowl classes, participate in bowling tournaments and offer a discount card to all our league bowlers.

Western Bowl was the host center for the Qubica Family Bowling Tournament this past Saturday.  65 teams competed in 4 different divisions with entries from 5 local area bowling centers.  17 teams will be advancing to the State Finals with the chance to bowl in the National Finals this summer.  Good Luck to all the bowling teams!

League bowling has changed over the years and it's not just for the competitive bowler any more. We're offering all kinds of league packaging so that everyone can enjoy our sport.  So far this January we've started a Pizza and Beer League, an Adult/Youth league where the bowlers can receive a bowling ball or bowling pin of their choice at the end of the season.
Combining with one of the premier events in Indianapolis, we're starting an Indy 500 bowling league. This league will bowling weekly beginning February 13th and end right before the race.  Each bowler in the league will go to the 500 race with a tailgate party prior to the start, a Trac Scan rental discount and a $5.00 gift card for retail shopping.

Kids parties in Indianapolis are a big part of our weekends here at Western Bowl.
Parents are happy to turn the party over to us so they can just enjoy their child's birthday.
Debbie S said "Heather was wonderful with our kids."
Alyssa B said "Great time...we'll be back"

Be sure to check out our website at www.royalpin.com, email me at sbrehob@royalpin.com or call 317-247-4426 to find out about all the happenings here at Western Bowl.

First Bowling Lesson With Coach Ray

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 by Stacey Davis
Ray was in our Royal Pin office this afternoon before his bowling lesson at Woodland. So we decided to have my first lesson when I got off work today.

Again, I went to the bowling center front counter and got my rented shoes. Then walked the concourse to pick out my house balls. This time I moved up to a 10 and 12 lb. I went bowling with a friend last week and decided 8 is way too light if I want to knock any pins down.

Ray was finishing his first lesson with Billy, an experienced bowler that is wanting to improve his game and learn a few tricks. We had one hour before the leagues start their practice time.

I threw a couple frames while Ray watched my form. Right off, of course, he notices that I start on the wrong foot. Holy Cow, that's why I could never understand how people swept their back leg across. I never looked like the Pros in the bowling tournaments!

It was so fun to work with Ray. In just about 10 minutes into my bowling lesson I started to feel a lot more confident. Ray was proud of himself and me and smiled and laughed a lot. He is the kind of coach I like to work with. At least now I understand what I was doing wrong.

We had to cut the lesson a little short due to leagues coming in so we headed to the pro shop. I picked out a pair of shoes for my own. After all, I can't really blog for Royal Pin and continue to rent shoes.

Here's Ray with one of his free monthly group lessons.
Call Ray for the next month's schedule 777-1987.

Pre Bowling Lesson

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 by Stacey Davis
Chris and I bowled before I ever had a bowling lesson. It wasn’t good.

I checked for lane availablity online through our online reservation system. We saw the leagues were done at 9:00pm. We got there early and got a beer while we waited for the leagues to finish.

Chris put on his own bowling shoes and dusted off his ball. I went to the bowling center counter and got a pair slightly too big and a few house balls. I started with an 8 and a 10. I think I’m a little wimpy.

In 3 games I bowled something like 63, 112 and 80. That’s only an average of 85. So I guess it shouldn’t take much to improve after just one bowling lesson. Chris wasn’t impressed with his own scores, but did much better than me at 150, 165 and 167 – an average of 160!

Out of 3 games the only time I threw a strike is when I was joking and used Chris’s ball.

We took a few photos and videos and discovered one of my main issues. Click to look through and see if you can tell what we found out right away. Royal Pin Flickr

I'm looking forward to actually feeling like I know what I'm doing.

Look at me bowl! Yikes. I didn't even know what I was doing wrong.

my form no lesson

Chris, on the other hand, kinda looks like he does.

Learn to Bowl (better)

Thursday, October 14, 2010 by Stacey Davis

I’m what the industry calls an open bowler – someone who comes in on weekend nights after the leagues and bowls a few games once or twice a year. I call people like me recreational bowlers.

One of the things that keeps me from bowling is I’m not very good at it. As a teenager and in college my friends and I would go to the bowling alley and have a good time. But by the middle of the 3rd game I was just throwing the ball down the lane to get it over with. I'm not about to sign up for an Indianapolis bowling tournament (yet), but I have a competitive streak in me and pretty much only have fun if I’m at least within a competitive score.

As the marketing director of several Indianapolis bowling centers it’s my job to find more recreational bowlers like me and introduce them back into bowling in Indianapolis. Royal Pin has a great Learn to Bowl program. I decided to promote the bowling lesson with Coach Ray Muir by taking them myself. I will blog about it the whole way through, including photos and videos.

Each week, or as we can set it up, I will have a bowling lesson with Ray. He’ll show me how things are suppose to be done and give me custom one-on-one training. As part of his program Ray will video record my steps as I bowl and give tips on how to improve my game. At my level, he’ll also need to give me the basic rules of the game.

Between coaching lessons I’ll be bowling with my friend Chris Nelson. Chris use to bowl as a kid and teenager. I plan to catch up and pass him. We’ll end up having to give him some pointers by the time this is done.

Ray and Dave Snell coach at all levels. They’ll do group or personal training. Check out our site for more information.

Our coaching program is a great step to getting non bowlers to feel good about bowling. As Coach Snell says, its 90% mental, 10% talent.

We had our first event pre bowling lesson, Tuesday. Let me say, there is very much room for improvement!

Youth Bowling

Saturday, October 9, 2010 by Terri Powell
Teen Travelers Youth Bowling Leagues Indianapolis has their kick off this weekend.

Sunday is the first day of the Teen Travelers league.  Expo Bowling Center is the first host of the year and like us here at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis looking forward to a successful season.

This year Woodland Bowling Center has 2 boys teams and 1 girls team.  We are excited about our teams and are sure that the Woodland teams will do very well.

It is amazing how the kids have grown up, some of these kids have been bowling in our youth bowling leagues for years. There are a few of them that started in the bumper division and I'm pretty sure that several of them have had their kids bowling birthday parties at our centers.

These kids are gaining experience visiting bowling alleys in Indianapolis each Sunday and competing for scholarships. Most of them have taken bowling lesson and some are still receiving lessons.  They work very hard to improve their game. Some continuing in Indianapolis bowling tournament and league bowling through out their lifetime.

Good Luck to all the travelers and special high five for the teams from Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis!

Bowling In Southern Indianapolis

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by Susie Brehob
Greetings from Expo Bowling Center!

Expo Bowling Center is pumped for their summer league bowling season.  We are in full swing flooring our leagues but it's not too late to join a league.

Summer league bowling is a great way to get out of the heat, spend time with family and friends, keep your bowling skills up (or if you're a beginner, learn to bowl) and get free bowling and coupon giv-a-ways weekly.

All our summer league bowlers receive one free game of bowling for each paid game of league bowling.  Not only that but adults have the chance to win the Royal Pin Mustang Convertible.  Merchant coupons are given away nightly.

Kids bowling in our youth and youth/adult leagues go to King's Island at the end of their bowling league season (f they choose that option.)

Leagues will be forming for the next few weeks and we have leagues for every age and ability.  You don't have to have a full team to bowl.  We can put together a team for you.  What a great way to make new friends!

Call us at 317-787-3448 or email sbrehob@royalpin.com for more information or to sign up.

Laser Tag and Bowling Birthday Parties are still a popular way to celebrate your child's birthday.  We can accommodate you most any day or time so call us to reserve this important event for your child.  You're never at the mercy of the weather when planning your party.  It may be warm outside but it never rains in the bowling center or laser tag arena.

Some comments from our last bowling and laser storm birthday parties were:

Sharon S. said "Ivan did a great job with our child's party.  He was right there when we needed him and was so polite!"

Tanya W. said "I didn't have to do a thing.  Our hostess Brittany took care of everything for us."

Tom R. said "Bowling was a great way to keep the kids occupied and my wife happy that she didn't have to have a mess at the house!"

Expo Bowling Center will host Old Fashioned Days on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Again, for more information or to sign up for any of our events or leagues call 317-787-3448 or email sbrehob@royalpin.com.

If you're looking for a fun event in Indianapolis check out our "Pot of Gold" Tournament this Saturday, March 13th at 6pm.  Each Doubles team will bowl 4 games of "Irish" Doubles at a price of only $20.00 per team.  The first place team will win $100.00 in "Gold" coins (prize fund is based on 20 doubles teams).  Wearing the green gets your name in a drawing for a special door prize.  Begin your St. Patrick's celebration, get your friends together and join us at Expo Bowl for this fun bowling tournament.

Another bowling tournament coming up is our 5th 9 Pin-No Tap tournament.  The next one is being held on Sunday, March 28th at 7pm.

Kids birthday parties in Indianapolis are very popular at Expo Bowl whether it's a bowling or laser tag party.

Here's some feed back from our Kid's Bowling Birthday Parties;

Diana L. said "We had a double birthday party w/ 14 kids.  They all had a blast, it was fun for all.  Mark was our host and was excellent".

Becky S. said "Ivan was very polite and helpful with the kids.  He made my son's bowling party lots of fun!"

and from Kid's Laser Tag Parties;

John P. said "Having a laser tag party was a great idea!  I didn't have to do anything.  Dusty was very helpful."

Bowling Leagues in Indianapolis are a great way to spend time w/ family & friends. We are gearing up for a great summer bowling league season.  Expo Bowling Center is the place to be this summer.  We have bowling leagues for every age and ability.  We're also going places.  One of our adult bowling leagues is going to Belterra at the end of the season, another one is going to the Brickyard 400 (with a tailgate party before the race!), and bowlers in our Saturday Morning Youth League and Generation Gap Adult/Junior Bowling League is going to King's Island!  Our PBA Experience leagues are a great way to improve your bowling skills and make you more competitive!

Don't forget that we also offer bowling lessons and we have a full service Bowling Pro Shop.
