Kids with time on their hands

Thursday, July 29, 2010 by Terri Powell

When parents cannot find affordable entertainment for their children, it leaves them with the question "now what?".

I have worried about my children having too much time on their hands. It occurred to me that I should purchase gift cards that I could reload for local activities. My first thought of course was bowling. After all I am a bowler who works in the business too. Then it hit me, why not bowling? A few kids bowling a couple of games sure would use up time.  That would mean less time for them to drive around just looking for trouble.  Well, maybe not looking but falling into.  I looked at the price of movies.. WOW..  I could not afford to send my son and a couple of his friends to the show at $10.00 per person.  So back to the bowling idea I went.  I could purchase a gift card, they could use that to play Pirates Cove Miniature Golf, Extreme Laser Tag or go bowling at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis.

So...  it became my treat for him and a couple of his friends to enjoy.  Helping to solve the problem of too much time and the dreaded words "I'm bored".

Expo Bowling Center hosted their first 10 game Marathon Bowling Tournament this past Saturday.  49 bowlers competed in the tournament bowling 10 games across twenty lanes.  3 of the bowlers were exempt pro bowlers who all  finished in the top 5.  First place for the bowling tournament paid $700.00.  Only 5 pins separated 1st and 2nd place tournament finishes!  Another Marathon Bowling Tournament is tentatively scheduled for February.  Watch for details.

Youth league bowling has begun again at Expo Bowl.  Our league began this past Saturday and it's not too late to join the league.  Our bowler's are excited because as one child put it, "we get to bowl with the best bowlers in the world" when they all compete in the Pro-Am at Woodland Bowl this February.

Expo Bowl is still hosting Holiday corporate outings into January.  Many companies held their bowling parties at Expo and had a great time.
Jamie from one of our events said; "The facility was great, everyone was very friendly and easy to work with.  The bowling party was very organized and handled great.  I would definitely consider having our party at the same location next year."
Brenda said "This was great team building for our employees.  Everyone had a good time bowling and spending time outside of the office."

Laser Tag parties are also popular as a corporate outing.  Adults have fun letting off steam and "shooting" their fellow employees.  Jim said "It was great shooting laser tag at my boss and she couldn't get mad!"
