Oh finally the snow arrives and it seems to change the tone of everything. I only wish it had snowed like this on Christmas. Have you ever noticed when you are outside how quiet it becomes. It brings a peacefulness. But I know only too well how busy the bowling alleys in Indianapolis are when the snow begins to fly. The kids are out of school and the planning for the New Years' Eve event are enough to make you go crazy. You can ask anyone of the staff and they will tell you this is a great time of year but NUTS.
I called around to our bowling centers today, to see how everyone was doing with their big parties coming up. Southern bowling center has only 3 lanes left and everyone else has several openings.
They will be blowing up balloons, getting party favors together, buying those crazy door prizes and preparing the food. It takes every employee to pull those parties off. Team building Indianapolis is at it's highest when it comes to NYE at the bowling centers. There is a sense of pride when you look at your evening and know that approximately 1000 people celebrated the New Year with you.
As we all gear up for the super bowl, I am amazed at how many events in Indianapolis will be taking place. Today I read something about a "Zooper Bowl" a recycling event in partnership with the zoo. How many different ways can "super bowl" be turned? There is "super build 46", "super cars", "super celebration sites", "super cure", "super scarves" and "super baskets of hope", the list goes on and on. I did take a moment to look at these events and I'm sure that all of them will be amazing.
For those of you who do not know, we are hosting the NFL Charities Super Bowl at Woodland Bowling center Indianapolis.
I am very excited that Royal Pin was chosen to host this wonderful event. I hope there will be something that I can volunteer to help. I have never been a huge football fan (only cheer for the "Colts" so, I probably will not know many of the celebrities, but I'm sure I will be star struck just the same.
The thing that I enjoy, is the excitement that fills the bowling center with big events such as this. It reminds me of the first time I went to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. I stood in awe of that facility and it was empty like I do when I enter one of our bowling centers during an event like this. Just makes you smile to be there.
Here is the link to the Indianapolis Super Bowl page, where you can see a calendar of events.

Now that I have been in my new office for close to a month I was cleaning out a few files left from who knows when and I found a list of interesting bowling terms. I have been hanging out at Bowling Alleys in Indianapolis for more years than I care to count and thought I knew all the bowling lingo. Well let me tell you, I do not!
If you go to any Indiana bowling centers on league night you are bound to hear the language of the lanes. I'm sure that most Bowling Alleys in Indianapolis all sound the same on league night. We all talk the language of the lanes.
Looking over this list of bowling lingo (33 definitions in fact) there were only 11 I knew. I made the decision to call on a few folks that had been in the bowling leagues Indianapolis a little longer than me and see if they knew them. I did not set anyone up to fail, I told them the list I was reading, were bowling terms.
Barb Short, Manager at Expo Bowling Center,
http://royalpin.com/ExpoBowl/expo.htm thank goodness had not heard of many more than I. For example: she had heard of the Christmas Tree (leaving the 3-7-10 combination for righthander or the 2-7-10 combination for a lefthander; these are also called "faith, hope and charity") but was not able to come up with it's definition.
Monica Meals, Program Director at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis
http://royalpin.com/WoodlandBowl/woodland.htm had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her about "poison ivy" (the troublesome 3-7-10 split) also known as the "Christmas Tree". Her response was "that stuff you get from the yard". Let me tell you, she is one sharp cookie and if she didn't know this, we could be looking at some real old school terms, after all she is a spring chicken. She knew about the same number as I.
In my quest to find others who had heard of these words, I have only found one and he started throwing words from the list at me and he hadn't even looked at it. My guess is these are old school. Let's make this interesting and see how many of you are familiar with some of these and maybe even have some to share. When you are bowling leagues in Indianapolis do you use bowling lingo and have you heard of any of these? I would love to heard what you think each of these mean.
1. Mother-In-Law 2. Blowout 3. Grasshopper 4. Throwing Rocks 5. Umbrella Ball
I will post the definitions for these 5 tomorrow
We are supposed to blog once a week here at Royal Pin, but I often find it hard to think of a topic for discussion. There are only so many times you can talk about kids bowling parties, laser tag parties and bowling parties. I keep looking for new avenues to write about, but I am coming up empty.
I thought self.. you could write about each center... but, what to say about Western Bowl Indianapolis, Woodland bowling center Indianapolis, Expo bowling center or Southern bowling center, that you do not already know. I could say how Western has a great staff and mention a few of their names. Mark, Susie and Doug. How many of you know them? Did you know that they would love for you to stop by their office and just say hello? Does anyone out there have a funny story to tell about Western?
I am curious about how many times per week you bowl, how many have shot 300 and how many have not broken 100. Do you have a favorite memory of bowling with family? Those are things I think about.
I can remember going to watch my Mother bowl in league. As a kid that was so BORING. Wow..I wish I could see her bowl again. I remember she looked kinda funny going to the foul line (she had the HOP in her approach). She was not a great bowler but her team had such a good time. I remembering them laughing, come to think of it they might have been laughing at her approach. It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized what team building Indianapolis was all about and how bowling memories carry on forever. Share your memories with us. We would love to hear them!
Sometimes I just enjoy watching the bowlers. Everyone has their own style and it doesn't seem to matter if the delivery is text book. Big scores can be shot by just be consistent. Often times bowlers to schedule a bowling lesson with Ray and I am so happy to see their average jump up. Isn't it crazy how picking up a ten pin can make you so excited! What's the most difficult spare for you? I know I could use a bowling lesson on the ten pin. Maybe I should schedule a bowling lesson with Ray.. Hmmm... something to think about.
Enjoy your week!
Well the time has come for everyone to think about what they will be doing this fall. All the Royal Pin Leisure Centers have put together great programs for the upcoming season. It's safe to say that bowling leagues Indianapolis are the best of the best.
I know that there are a few teams that need help finding bowlers to finish off their line up. Let your center know what you need to finish up your team. If you need a team they can also help. You could go to face book and post your needs on the Royal Pin Fan Page. With so many bowlers in the city Indianapolis team building could be easy if we use the tools available to us. Don't forget that if your game needs some work all the centers will be scheduling learn to bowl classes.
I haven't bowled in about 3 years and have decided this might be year to get back to it. I really miss the 2 hours of visiting with friends. I am amazed at the number of people I don't see anymore, you always think you run into them after bowling. That doesn't always seem to pan out.
I would not know three of my best friends without bowling. I met 1 of them in 1990 and the others in 1992, or is that 91... oh I'm not sure of the year now but it's been a really long time. It is crazy how bowling leagues produce family members you didn't know you had. :-) Okay so they are family by choice. But sometimes that is the best kind. When I talk to people who want to bowl in a league to meet others, I always tell them, bowlers are the best kind of friends. They are loyal, kind, generous and end up friends for a lifetime.
So come on in and pick your new family of choice! Bowling leagues Indianapolis is a great place to start!
The breeze is cool tonight and it's perfect for playing Pirates Cove Miniature Golf. I was outside earlier taking some pictures and surprised to see several families playing mini golf. My first thought was it might be too hot. I was wrong! With the great breeze we seem to have out there all the time and the mist coming off the fountains it really is quite nice.
I felt the urge to say "argg" in my best pirate voice but the kids did not see any humor in this. I tired the "shiver me timbers" again with no luck. I thought I heard one of them say "I should walk the plank" That left me wishing i could play too. Maybe another day!
I walked around Pirates Cove, hoping to catch a glimpse of Johnny Depp. No luck.. I could only dream. I soon came back to reality and remembered the corporate outings and pictures I needed to take. I enjoyed walking around Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf today, it's like stepping into another world. Next time I'll take my pirate hat and maybe the kids will see the humor in my "argg".
If you see me out there working my pirate act, give me a break and for a few minutes play along. After all there is no better place for mini golf Indianapolis than Pirate's Cove.
Today like many other days at Woodland Bowl Indianapolis we are booking corporate outings like crazy. Janice is really selling the team building Indianapolis! Keep up the good work.
We have a great party coming up next week with a facilitator and our staff always looks forward to hosting. That is our chance to get out there and meet the bowlers and interact.
I personally enjoy the team challenge part of the event. That is where is team creates a cheer to perform in front of their colleagues. I have seen some real wild ideas but it does bring a new meaning to Indianapolis Team Building. The participants growl when they first hear the instructions but as their performance draws near they are rehearsing and asking for paper to write a script. Many sing songs, do dances and some bring back those high school cheer-leading days. No matter what the initial response to this challenge it always ends with everyone laughing.
Team Building Indianapolis has never been better.
Thank you to all of those who have participated.
With one more holiday season under our belt. We are now gearing up for the Lumber Liquidators PGA Tour. This year we will be hosting the Dick Weber PBA Playoffs March 8th to March 13th. Woodland bowling center Indianapolis is proud and excited to be involved again this season. We have 6 days of great bowling. I am taking entries for the Pro Am which will be held March 12th. Pro Am day is one of my best days in the center. There is a buzz that you cannot describe. It is neat to see the bowlers getting autographs and having their pictures taken with the professionals. I know the Pro Am Tournament is all about the experience and not if you are a good bowler or not. You do not bowl against the pros only with them. It gives everyone a chance to talk and get to know each other. I can not even begin to explain what the television show is like.. WOW! Watching from home is nothing like seeing and hearing in person. I think that this week will once again be an event to go in the books for Indianapolis Bowling Tournament. If you are in the center please stop by the office and say hello!
Corporate Outings went great this last week. Area companies are visiting Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis to celebrate the holidays! Our schedule was crazy but exciting all at the same time. We really enjoy when Indianapolis team building is so successful.
This week brings us lots of excitement, everyday we are hosting more corporate outings.
Last weekend brought us 13 bowling birthday party families on Saturday. I was out working with the kids bowling parties and now more than every appreciate our hosts. The concourse looked like birthday party central and to my surprise several of these parties had 20+ children. I am thankful that a bowling birthday party is popular.
We are getting ready for this coming weekend with several different activities. We have bowl with Santa on Saturday, kids bowling parties and the Youth bowling league Indianapolis banquet. Sunday brings us the 9 Pin No Tap tournament. I am sorry to say that John has retired and will no longer be running these tournaments, but we are going to continue. The program office is looking forward at next year's schedule and planning dates for these tournaments. Our hope is to grow from John's great ground work and turn this into the best Indianapolis bowling tournament.
This weekend proved once again that when Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis hosts a Special Olympics Tournament it snows!
I always have a great day during the Special Olympic Events. They are such a pleasure to work with. Bowling in Indianapolis is at it's finest when these kids come out to bowl. This tournament along with several others uses all 80 of the lanes and runs like a fine oiled machine.
Western Bowl Indianapolis also hosted Special Olympics both Saturday and Sunday.
I would like to thank all the staff of Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis and of course the staff from Special Olympics for a great weekend. We look forward to hosting your next Indianapolis Bowling Tournament.
On a side note, kids bowling parties are going like wild fire. The comments some of the parents have left are proof that a bowling birthday party at Woodland bowling center Indianapolis is a great place to host your child's next birthday.

We are gearing up for the weekend here at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis.
This weekend we are hosting the Special Olympics Tournament for Area 8. There will be two days of exciting bowling in this building. For the past several years it has been my pleasure to work these tournaments. The excitement in the building is high and it is so very nice to see everyone having such a great time.
Watching these athletes is an awesome experience and it gives me such a joy to see the large turn out for this great Indianapolis bowling Tournament. The volunteers are here bright and early on Saturday morning putting in the time and effort it takes to run this tournament. I know the folks that work for Special Olympics are very grateful for the help.
I would like to say GOOD LUCK to all the athletes and I look forward to seeing you. If you get the time stop by and say hello in the program office.

Teen Travelers Youth Bowling Leagues Indianapolis has their kick off this weekend.
Sunday is the first day of the Teen Travelers league. Expo Bowling Center is the first host of the year and like us here at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis looking forward to a successful season.
This year Woodland Bowling Center has 2 boys teams and 1 girls team. We are excited about our teams and are sure that the Woodland teams will do very well.
It is amazing how the kids have grown up, some of these kids have been bowling in our youth bowling leagues for years. There are a few of them that started in the bumper division and I'm pretty sure that several of them have had their kids bowling birthday parties at our centers.
These kids are gaining experience visiting bowling alleys in Indianapolis each Sunday and competing for scholarships. Most of them have taken bowling lesson and some are still receiving lessons. They work very hard to improve their game. Some continuing in Indianapolis bowling tournament and league bowling through out their lifetime.
Good Luck to all the travelers and special high five for the teams from Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis!
Fall has arrived and the cooler weather is driving kids bowling parties inside where it's warm. We have hired several new bowling birthday party hosts anticipating a very busy season.
I am excited to see the new faces and thankful to see the experienced hosts still on staff. The training process has begun with some kids bowling parties having 2 or 3 hosts attending to them. I will be glad when training is over and everyone is comfortable. The new hosts will have to wait to receive their Pirates Cove Miniature Golf training. As I do not think many will be booking when the snow begins to fly.
Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis is proud to announce their new kids bowling parties host: Welcome to Ryan, Jasmine, Sheree and Monique. We are glad to have you on our team.
This past week we worked on some team building and I thought it was successful. We are going to have a bowling birthday party host of the month. If your host has done an outstanding job for you please let us know by turning in your comment card. The host with the most comments cards turned in and of course with the best comments will be the "Bowling Birthday Party Host of the month". We are working on what their prize will be and as soon as a decision is made we will make it known.
I want to say a great BIG thank you to all the hosts new and old. If they were not doing a great job we would not have all the kids bowling parties that we do.
Here are a few examples of comment cards turned in:
Tavonna writes:

Again thank you Bowling Birthday Party Hosts. I could not do this without you!
Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis, back in the day was a place where our parents went out to the bowling "alley". It was smoke filled and the beer flowed. Now it is not smoke filled but you can still have that beer. There are no worries about score keeping, only worry is what activity to do first. The bowling "alleys" are now a more family oriented place. Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis has become a place to relax, enjoy music, play billiards and enjoy the bowling atmosphere. There are so many possibilities from playing arcade games, food, leagues or recreational bowling. It is hard to imagine Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis ever being a bowling "alley". Recently while watching a Mom with her children, I realized how different things are. I would so enjoy being that kid again. No more would I have to hang out behind Mom and Dad's lane. I would be able to play for hours in the Big Top and go outside and play Pirate's Cove Miniature Golf. I thought how lucky I am to work in an industry that promotes not only corporate outings but also family time. Thank you to all the families that schedule their kids bowling birthday parties and help change the bowling "alley" into a bowling center.
When parents cannot find affordable entertainment for their children, it leaves them with the question "now what?".
I have worried about my children having too much time on their hands. It occurred to me that I should purchase gift cards that I could reload for local activities. My first thought of course was bowling. After all I am a bowler who works in the business too. Then it hit me, why not bowling? A few kids bowling a couple of games sure would use up time. That would mean less time for them to drive around just looking for trouble. Well, maybe not looking but falling into. I looked at the price of movies.. WOW.. I could not afford to send my son and a couple of his friends to the show at $10.00 per person. So back to the bowling idea I went. I could purchase a gift card, they could use that to play Pirates Cove Miniature Golf, Extreme Laser Tag or go bowling at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis.
So... it became my treat for him and a couple of his friends to enjoy. Helping to solve the problem of too much time and the dreaded words "I'm bored".
Once again Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis, will be hosting a 9 Pin No Tap Tournament. The newest in tournament rage has hit the city. You do not need to be the all star bowler to enjoy and do well in this event. Meet us at Woodland Bowling Center Indianapolis on July 4th at 11 am and make your mark on tournament bowling. The cost is $20.00 per person with a payout of 1 in 6. Do not forget if you knock down 9 pins on your frist ball we will count it as a strike!
