Western Indianapolis Bowling
There were a lot of special events taking place in Indianapolis last weekend. Western Bowl Indianapolis was no exception to these activities.
On Saturday, January 31 Western Bowl, one of the finest Bowling Alleys in Indianapolis, was the site of the Indianapolis Bowling Tournament for High School Bowlers. Ten High School teams competed. Six boys’ teams and four girl’s team challenged each other for the right to move on the State Sectionals in Muncie, Indiana. The High School Bowling Tournament was supervised and operated by the Indianapolis Bowling Association. The High School bowlers are products of the Youth Bowling Leagues in Indianplois.
After completion of two regular games and four "Baker" games. (Baker games are when each team member bowls two frames each game. The lead-off bowling the 1st & 6th frames 2nd bowler the 2nd & 7th frame, 3rd bowler the 3rd & 8th frame, 4th bowler the 4th & 9th frame and the anchor bowler bowing the 5th and the 10th frames).
The total results found Ben Davis H. S. and Brownsburg H. S. squaring off for a two game championship roll-off. After the pins settled down Ben Davis was victorious over Brownsburg 358 pins to 338 pins and claimed the right to move on.
In the Girls Division: Decatur Central H. S. nipped Brownsburg H.S. by just four pins 2699 to 2695 to take the "Crown" and advance to Muncie. An tough loss for Brownsburg. However, by virtue of a "Wild Card" team being sent to the Sectional in Muncie. This was decided by the team having the highest total pin fall, by a team in the runner up position, of the Four Regional Bowling Qualifiers in the State. Brownsburg H.S. Girls team achieved this feat beating the closest competitor by 259 pins and therefore will also advance to the State Sectionals.
After the Team competition was completed the High School bowlers returned to bowl the Singles event. The top four bowlers, boys and girls, would qualify for the ‘Step Ladder" Roll-Down " a Sudden Death" series of one on one head to head matches, a bottom to top, one game elimination match to decide the ultimate "Regional Single Champion" and qualify for the State Sectional Singles Championship.
In the Boy’s division, after bowling a three game qualifier, the "Top Dog" was James Dolph of Ben Davis followed by Kyle Basham of Avon, Sahi White of Ben Davis, and Kevin Locke of Cardinal Ritter.
Locke who started in 4th rolled through the final beating White, 205 to 201, Dasham 205 to 147 and top qualifier Dolph 189 to 172 to win the Championship.
In the Girl’s Division, Top qualifier was Decatur Central’s Amber Thompson followed by a host of Brownsburg Kegler’s Katie Weaver, Chelsea Philips and Becky Sweet.
In the Step Ladder the first match found Phillips topping Sweet 164 to 155. Weaver then beat Phillips 155 to 113. In the Championship Match Thompson handily beat Weaver 225 to 155 to advance to the Sectionals.
